Relay for Life was this Friday in Salina. It was a huge success, we surpassed our goal by Friday night at 9 and there is still money being turned in! By the time I left Saturday morning, we had raised over $52,000 (more then Topeka, KS raised this year!) Thank you to everyone that supported me and my team, I deeply appreciate it!
Part of my job at Relay for Life, besides being the team captian for Sunflower Insurance Group (we were #8 in money raised, out of over 60 teams!), was being the Mission/Advocacy chair. I shared with people at Relay what the American Cancer Society offers cancer patients and care givers as well as cancer related issues that are being presented to goverment officials. One way The American Cancer Society is preseenting these issues to both the public and goverment officials all over the United States is through the ACS CAN (Cancer Action Network) and the Fight Back Express Bus. This bus is driving throughout the US, stopping at key locations during this 2008 polictical campaign. This is a huge grassroots movement. The goal is to bring cancer related issued to the front of the political debates. Click here for more information on ACS CAN

Once again, thank you for all your support! Oh, I almost forgot. I have been selected to be the Co-Chair for the 2009 Saline County Relay for Life. I am so excited about this opportunity to help fight back! I will keep you updated throughout the year on what I am working on! If you would like to get involved in your local Relay for Life, check out this website to find you local Relay. We are always looking for volunteers!
