About

I’m Andrea, a modern hippie.  I’m a 30 something (umm...getting way to close to 40), mom to 9 little angels in heaven, coffee addict, baker, real food eater, and an all things natural kind of girl.

A Modern Hippie is all about living a natural and chemical free life.  I write about eating organic + local foods, using natural cleaning + beauty products, my journey with infertility, and everything else in between.

People often ask me what it means to be a “modern hippie”.  I don't wear hippie signs, smoke illegal drugs, protest for peace, or burn my bras (although sometimes I would love to!). Instead, I consider myself a modern hippie because I live a chemical free life (as best I can), eat organic/local foods, shop locally when possible, and use as few paper/plastic disposable products as possible.  I dream of one day living out on a few acres of land, raising chickens + goats, growing a big garden, living a semi-minimalist lifestyle, and generating some of my own electricity!

My journey to a more natural lifestyle, free of chemicals, nasty ingredients, and pesticides, started in 2008 as I slowly learned what was really in the foods and health + beauty products sold in most stores.

I am not perfect and do not eat 100% real, organic foods all the time. But I strive to use local, real, organic, and non-chemical food as much as possible and within my budget.  I love sharing recipes, so be sure to check out my recipe page.

When my journey of eating more organic/real food began I also began learning that cleaning, beauty, and laundry products contained nasty chemicals that impact our health.  Our skin is absorbent, so anything we put on our skin is absorbed into our body.  This is scary to me when looking at the many products on the market filled with ingredients that are foreign to our body.  Check out my resources page for some of the products I love and endorse which are not filled with ingredients harmful to our health!

You will also find that I chat about my journey of starting a family. I have lost 9 little angels through pregnancy loss.  Two of those being tubal pregnancies, which ended in surgery and the loss of both my tubes.  Several years ago I went through IVF (In Vitro Fertilization), but it was not successful and I lost the precious little twins. Check out my pregnancy loss journey to get up to date.

Blogging has been a great opportunity for me to share what I have learned and am learning on this journey to live in a more natural way, more like our grandparents lived.  It is a passion of mine to share with my readers about things they can do to live a more healthy, natural life.
