No Sugar Baby!

I had a couple of questions from the post yesterday, so I thought I would just share them and respond to them here!

GmaKathy asked:
I'll join, but my cravings are not sugar - I'm a junk food junkie..do chips have sugar in them?? Or how about salsa con queso? I suppose most of the junk food things I like have sugar in them too. I use Splenda in my cereal - does that have to go?

I am always surprised by what has sugar in it. For instance I was looking at a box of Corn Flakes today sitting in the break room at work and it had HFCS(High Fructose Corn Syrup) listed as one of the first several ingredients! And I am sure the Corn Flakes commercials rave of how healthy a cereal it is--a great "diet food".
Check out the following links for comparisons of Splenda and Stevia.
                1.  This article is rather long, but has some great information.
                2. 3 Fat Chicks on a Diet Website has a good article
                3. The Nourished Life Blog has some good information on the different types of sugars.

GmaKathy also asked:
What about fruit....did you say fruit is OK? That is what I usually eat if I have a sugar craving - I also eat carrots when looking for sweets. Ok, well, I'm off to see what's in the kitchen that would be good for me and NOT have high fructose corn syrup in it?

Yes, I am eating fruits.  Since FRESH and MOST FROZEN fruits have only natural sugar I am definitly consuming my daily requirements for fruits. I advise everyone to be careful and check out the ingredients of frozen fruit with syrup and canned fruits.  Both of these forms of fruit contain sugars!

Day two is almost over and I made it without an sugar, except the little Stevia I had in my morning coffee!  I did not have the cookies tempting me at work, so I made it through day 2 with only a few cravings I had to overcome.  Thanks for the comments and questions. Keep them coming and I will try my best to answer them.

Check back Wednesday for some ideas and recipes for healthy alternatives to replace your sugar filled snacks
