Books on Tape

Well I guess now they are call "Books on CD"?? I still always hear them referred to as "Books on Tape". Anyway, get to my point right? I tend to be in the car traveling lots of the time. As much as music can be entertaining it does get old at times. So, I am wanting to venture out into the world of "books on CD". But I have one problem. I don't read many books and I am not familiar with many authors. Hey, I am lucky to read through the magazines I subscribe to in my free time! So, I don't really know where to start in picking a book to listen to on CD. This is where I need all of your help! I need suggestions of some good books, fiction or non, that I might get on CD for my next road trip. I am excited to hear all of your suggestions and start reading via my ears!

  1. Nicholas Sparks is always a good one, as well as James Patterson---not his scary stuff but his fun stuff. I don't know if she has any books on CD or not, but I always have fun reading Jane Green books too!

  2. Here are some literary classics I love: Sense & Sensibility, Emma, Pride & Prejudice, Emma - all by Jane Austen, Dracula, Anna Karenina, The Iliad, Odyssey

Also, here are some authors I've enjoyed over the years: Jodi Piccoult, Frank McCourt, Penny Vincenzi, CS Lewis, Chris Bohjalian, Keith Donahue.

Enjoy your "Books on CD" :)

  3. Ok, my guilty pleasure--chick lit:
    Sophie Kinsella
    Lorna Landvik
    Jane Green
    Jennifer Weiner

Sue Monk Kidd is also good, from what I've heard, but I've never read her books (Secret Life of Bees & the Mermaid Chair, to name a few). Secret Life of Bees is a film now...

I concur with Hil that Nicholas Sparks' books are always good (2 of his have been made into movies).
