When I think of Earth Day my first thought is always a memory from my childhood. One Saturday when I was 12 or 13 my family went to a park for a picnic lunch. There were all kinds of people in the park, so we wondered over to check out what was happening. It was an Earth Day Fair with booths of information surrounding Earth Day. This would have been about 20 years ago (that makes me feel old!), and I'm sure my mom thought we were surrounded by extreme hippies that never left the 60's! I remember her saying that these people were crazy. Sorry mom, but am I wrong? I remember some of the booths were educating people on recycling, conserving energy, and not littering. Twenty years ago this might have been odd for the majority of Americans (especially for the middle of KS), but today I'm sure my mom would not feel the same way!
Earth Day is April 22. Starting April 1, I will be offering a daily challenge to help us celebrate Earth Day. Some days might even include a giveaway! I encourage you to step outside your chemical cleaning bottle or plastic bag and make small changes in your life to help keep you, your family, and our earth beautiful!
I will also be posting Earth Day freebies that I find during the month of April. If you know of any good freebies, let me know so I can pass on the info!

Well, you are probably right about my comments...in fact the comment might have been more like "these people are whacko tree huggers who would rather save whales than human babies" or something extreme like that...but I would have said it rather quietly and politely, right? But I really have always felt like we need to take care of the things that God has so freely given us - like our bodies, the earth, abundant clean water. Do remember that I was a college kid in the late sixties - I would have burned my bra, but I didn't want the smoke to pollute the air! This sounds interesting so I'll be accepting the challenges - you go girl!
