Fitness Friday 3.23.12

I love Fridays, but I really enjoyed this Friday! A couple of weeks ago I resigned from my job and today was my last day. I am looking forward to what awaits me in the future. Some of the things I will be focusing on first will be catching up on my scrapbooking, getting my Etsy store open, and my health.

Since health is on my list to focus on I thought it would be fun to start a Fitness Friday post. The next couple of weeks I will focus on my exercise goals and eating healthy. I'm excited to have purchased a juicer that was actually delivered today; I love when the UPS man comes to visit our house! I did extensive research before I purchased the juicer which I will share in the coming weeks. The first week of April I will be starting a 10 day juice fast.

My fitness goals over the next few months are basic: Lose weight and tone my muscles. Since moving to AL my fitness has improved tremendously. I never really had to worry about exercising when I was young, I was skinny but definitely not in shape.  Don't hate me!  After college and marriage things changed for the worse and I started gaining weight...not fun! About 6 months ago I signed up to work with a trainer at the gym. When I was consistent with working out I had great improvement and was getting toned. Of course life happens and I have not stayed as committed as I should to working out the last few months.

This is all about to change! I have learned so much from working with a trainer. Prior to working with her I was always intimidated about weight lifting at the gym because I did not know what I was doing. Since working with her I am now comfortable in the gym.

I give up fairly easy when working out. I hate this about me and hope I can overcome that with time! I have learned that I can push my body so much further then I ever imagined. Working out with someone, a trainer or a friend, helps push me and not be a wimp!

If you ever have the opportunity to work with a trainer, I highly recommend it. It is worth every penny to have someone encourage you, push you, and keep you accountable. I have also been exposed to new workouts since working with a trainer. My favorites are spinning and zumba. They are both great workouts that burn tons of calories. I have also completed two boot camp classes and met some wonderful people through the process that share my goals of getting and staying in shape. It has provided me with people to workout with so we can keep each other accountable. If you are interested in working with a trainer here are a few suggestions:
  • Find someone that you will get along with and you enjoy working out with.  Most gyms have bios of all the trainers so you can start by looking through those and picking one or two you want to meet.  Feel free to work out with a couple different trainers and pick the one you enjoy the most.
  • All trainers will have different opinions on healthy eating.  Keep this in mind when picking a trainer and make sure they share your same thoughts on healthy eating.
  • Make sure you are committed to a couple of goals.  If you do not have a goal then what is the point in working towards anything?  A trainer will assist you in a plan to reach your goals.
Check back next week for more information on my juice fast I will be starting in April.  I would love for you to join me if you are interested!

Have you worked with a trainer before?  If so, did you like working with a trainer?  What struggles do you have with working out and eating healthy?

If you have questions about exercise or eating healthy please leave a comment or email me. I will include questions I get in my Friday posts.

I'm linking up with Jill from Fitness, Health, and Happiness.

  2. Glad to connect with you, Andrea! I read a bit on your blog, and am so touched by your fertility struggle... seems it is very common! Good for you for being so honest and open about it. We struggle to get pregnant with our first and it was so helpful for me to share that struggle... although it doesn't take away all the emotions and challenges that come with it. I've never worked with a personal trainer, but I definitely need someone to push me to do the weights end of things! I prefer to run, but I know I need to be a bit more balanced.

  3. Welcome to FF Andrea! Working with a trainer several years ago was the key to my fitness today. One of the best decisions I ever made. Don't give up. Keep at it long enough to see results, change and success and those things will keep you motivated. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your juice fast. I LOVE my juicer :)

  4. I love working with my trainer, he pushes me to do things I never thought I could do and I loe the variety since I tend to get stuck in workout ruts. Welcome to FF, can't wait to see how the Juicing goes.
