Fitness & Health Bucket List Update

It is the weekend!  I meant to get this posted yesterday, but B was released early so we spent the afternoon being lazy on the couch watching The Cosby Show on Hulu.  We tried really hard not to take a nap so we wouldn't mess up our crazy bedtime and wake up times!  I failed and took a short nap, but I was still able to fall asleep fast last night.  Our workout yesterday before dinner was not great, we were both really tired and
un-motivated from a long week of getting up at 3:45. So Friday might start being our rest day and workout both Saturday and Sunday.

In January I shared my Fitness & Health Bucket List.  Since it is already March I want to give an update on how things are going.

Before going over the below list I want to let you know that I ended up having surgery the end of January (or was it February?) so my fitness stopped abruptly since it was not a planned surgery. I finally got released to resume physical activity 2 weeks ago.

1.  Learn to run ALONE.
I have not run ALONE yet mainly because of my surgery. Now that I can exercise again I will begin running.

2.  Start AGAIN & Consistently Attend Spin Class, Yoga, and Strong Bodies.

After coming up with my fitness bucket list for this year we revised our budget and decided to remove fitness classes. So, now hubby and I are working out together. I love that we can help keep each other motivated and accountable by working out together!

Day 1 of P90X
As soon as I was released from my doctor to resume exercise we started P90X again (we had started it before I had surgery). We completed our 2nd week yesterday and I have already improved on everything. If you are unfamiliar with P90X, it is basically a 90 day fitness program that focuses on weight lifting, pull-ups, push-ups, etc. There are 2 cardio days a week. We are not doing the cardio CDs included in the program, instead we are doing a running program. Our first running day we do 60/120's on the treadmill at the gym. The 2nd running day we are going on a short fast run outside. I HATE running on a treadmill and would rather run outside, so we do one treadmill day and one outside day to make me happy!   Once B's flight school winds down and he has a little more time we will run 3 times a week, for now 2 is all he can fit in the schedule.  I plan to run a third time during the week on yoga day.

3. Read Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook That Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and The Diet Dictocrats by Sally Fallon.
FAIL so far, I have not started reading this book because I have other ones I want to read first. But hopefully in the next month or so I will get started on this one. Have any of you read this book yet? What books are you reading?

4. Stay away from Gluten, Dairy, and Coffee.
Latte from one of my favorite coffee shops back home. Dont you just love their mugs?
Gluten--I'm doing great. I do splurge every once in awhile, mainly when we eat out. We only eat out 1 time a week, so I sometimes want something with gluten in it.
Dairy & Coffee--FAIL. I only have dairy in my coffee, I have been avoiding all other forms of dairy. Since we are out of bed during the week SOOOO EARLY I splurge and have 1 cup of coffee with milk in the morning. I make B coffee, so it is hard to resist pouring me a cup of coffee. I also have a weekly coffee date with friends that I usually splurge and get a latte, but I really need to just start getting tea!

5. Run a 10K. Well I have not run very many times yet this year, but I'm still hoping to complete a 10K before the end of the year! I hope to also improve my time with the 60/120 training B is making me do.

Did you set goals for this year?  If so, how are they going?  What are you doing to stay healthy and in shape??

  1. I set goals every year to keep me motivated and on track. I would like to be further along with my ultra training but other than that my goals are going great.

I went for a month without coffee and didn't notice any difference in my health or how I felt. I decided I really had no reason to stop drinking it. My few morning cups of coffee are fine :)

    LOVE P90X!!!

    1. Yah, if I didnt have goals I would struggle accomplishing anything! So glad your goals are going good for you. I can not imagine training for an ultra...I struggle running a 5K still! But if I were consistant I would get there a lot faster.

Me and coffee have a love/hate relationship. I love it and crave it but it is not great for my complexion! Someday maybe I will wake up and hate coffee..hahaha.

  2. I have set goals, but haven't done a very good job of checking in...a blog post is due I guess ;)

I think it's great that you and your husband are working out together. I like to run with mine, but our schedules make it difficult.
