The Day of 2 Firsts

Last Sunday I had a day of doing two things I had never done before, ALL IN ONE DAY! Both of these are things I have wanted to do, but have never had enough ambition or time to complete.

I had about 1 dozen apples that I was not going to eat before they would be to "mushy" for my liking! I started thinking, what can I do with all these apples??? Well, after much research online I decided to make Crock Pot Apple Butter. I love homemade apple butter. I have never really liked the stuff you can buy in the store (that is my opinion on a LOT of things though). Homemade tops all mass produced apple butter by FAR! I didn't find a recipe online that really had the ingredients I thought would make the best apple butter, so I combined ingredients for a recipe here and there and came up with my own recipe (I love doing this with recipes!)

You are probably wondering what the 2nd thing is that I did for the first time, right?? I knew that Brenden and I could not eat the entire batch of apple butter before it went bad, so I decided I would trying canning!!! It was a lot of fun once I did more research and figured out exactly how to can apple butter.

Below are the pictures I took as I was making the apple butter and canning. Some of you may be wondering how you even make apple butter in the crock-pot. I am not ready to give away my recipe, but here is the basics of how I made my apple butter.

1. Core, Slice, Peel, and Dice all the apples. I really was wishing I had the Pampered Chef Apple Peeler/Corer/Slicer to do this step.

2. Put all apples, spices, and other ingredients into crock pot. Turn crock pot on high and let cook for 8-10 hours. You cook it until you get the consistency you prefer.

And finally you have the finished product! I had so much fun making apple butter and canning. I look forward to my next canning project!
